A couple of months ago my friends and I started a gaming podcast. Inspired by IGN’s Game Scoop, BEYOND and the Pubcast, we set about creating our own show – The VxM Videogames Podcast.
It’s been a hell on a lot of fun recording and if you have time you should definitely check us out. If you enjoy it please subscribe to us on iTunes. It really would mean a lot to us.
Anyway, I’m not really here to talk about the podcast itself, but rather the podcast’s theme song…
As some of you may know I am a musician of sorts and enjoy writing and recording some of my own compositions. So when I decided I was going to create the show I needed a catchy tune to accompany it.
I started digging through my back catalogue trying to find something suitable and came up with a few different songs that probably would have worked. However in the end I choose a piece I felt had the right energy called “In Your Eyes”.
It was originally inspired by the artist Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly and was an ultra-chilled out acoustic song comprising of only guitar and vocals.
Soon after it was written I decided to jam it out with a couple of friends and percussionist, Mike Wilson, started playing a very drum n’ bass-like beat. This changed the whole tone of the piece for me in what I thought was a really interesting way, so I started moving a bit more in that direction.
At the time bands like Pendulum were combining rock with drum n’ bass so I thought I’d give it a go myself, which is how all the electric guitars got introduced into the mix.
Finally I removed the vocals for the podcast version and that’s how I ended up with the product above. Although I do think the vocals made the whole song a bit more interesting, they didn’t really fit in the context of a theme song.
Thanks very much for reading and listening everyone. Please let me know what you think down in the comments below. Also I’d love to hear some of your musical endeavours. @DTakes23 showed me some of her stuff the other day and it’s awesome. Leave me a link and I’ll be sure check it out.
More music coming soon. In the meantime you can listen to my acoustic EP, ‘The Beginning of Forever’, on my BandPage player by scrolling up and to the right.
